Cuestionario de Condicionantes de la Elección y Adaptación Académica (CE-AA)

Abstract
The Cuestionario de Condicionantes de la Elección y Adaptación Académica (CE-AA; Sánchez-García, Moreno-Yaguana, & Fernández-García, 2023) is an original inventory/questionnaire designed to evaluate the conditions and psychosocial aspects influencing the university experience in Ecuador. The CE-AA consists of four dimensions: (a) students’ perceptions of information and orientation determinants influencing their university studies; (b) motivational aspects that shaped their choice of studies; (c) their current level of academic satisfaction; and (d) the support and guidance received from their university. The development of the instrument involved expert analysis for refinement, adjustment, and item removal. Validation was conducted using a sample of university students, demonstrating good content validity as per Tristán (2008) criteria. Factor analyses and internal consistency were also reported. Acknowledged limitations by the authors include that while the fit of the CFA model is acceptable, it is not considered optimal.

Purpose
The primary purpose of the CE-AA is to measure the reasons behind students’ choices and their academic satisfaction, specifically in relation to academic success.

Validity
Content Validity: The content validity of the CE-AA was assessed, with most indices reported above 0.90, and none falling below 0.50. The global Content Validity Index (CVI) value obtained was 0.88, which is higher than the acceptable threshold of 0.58 established by Tristán (2008). This indicates a strong agreement among judges regarding the relevance, sufficiency, and clarity of each item.

Reliability
Internal Consistency: The internal consistency of the CE-AA was evaluated using McDonald’s Omega values, which were found to be within the acceptable range of 0.7 to 0.9. For the “Reasons for Choice” scale, Factor 1 exhibited a high coefficient of 0.919, while Factor 2 had a coefficient of 0.687. The “Academic Satisfaction” scale demonstrated a strong internal consistency coefficient of 0.912.

Factor Analysis
Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA): For the “Reasons for choosing studies” scale, the two identified factors collectively explained 68.92% of the total variance. For the “Academic Satisfaction” scale, the EFA revealed that the total variance explained was 53.54%.
Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA): The CFA for the “Reasons for choosing studies” scale showed a good level of adjustment. The sampling adequacy index (KMO) was 0.8547, a value close to unity, confirming the suitability of factor analysis. Bartlett’s sphericity test (χ²=7555.41; 36 gl; p<.000) yielded a significance of less than 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis that the correlation matrix is an identity matrix. Similarly, for the “Academic Satisfaction” scale, the CFA solution presented a good level of adjustment, with a KMO value of 0.921 and Bartlett’s sphericity test (χ²=8368.18; 55 gl; p<.000) also showing a significance of less than 0.05.
