Description
In recent discussions, scholars abroad have suggested that job selection anxiety is a tense and worried emotional state experienced by individuals when they cannot confirm their own profession, belonging to the category of state anxiety (Vignoli, 2015). Zhang Yuzhu (2005) believes that job selection anxiety refers to the tension, restlessness, and concern experienced by individuals when facing career choices, which is a persistent negative experience accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes, particularly noticeable for university students about to graduate. Zhang Xiaoqin (2005) defines job selection anxiety as the worry and unease caused by the job situation regarding the job selection process and outcomes, leading to corresponding changes in recognition. Pan Ming and Lu Yijia (2005) argue that job selection anxiety among university students arises from the uncertainty they feel facing a harsh employment environment near graduation, stemming from their lack of confidence in achieving their initially set career goals. Research indicates that job selection anxiety can be distinguished from general anxiety disorders in the following aspects: First, job selection anxiety has clear objects and causes, changing with the difficulties related to employment; in contrast, general anxiety experiences are diffuse and persistent. Second, the intensity and persistence of job selection anxiety correlate positively with the job selection situation and its significance for the individual. Third, anxiety disorders often accompany symptoms of motor restlessness, such as involuntary tremors, while job selection anxiety typically does not exhibit these symptoms (Bjarne, Andreas, Markus, Andreas, & Katja, 2020).
