Administration Method and Scoring

The Ambivalent Sexism Inventory (ASI) includes two subscales: the hostile sexism subscale (HS) and the benevolent sexism subscale (BS). The scores for hostile and benevolent sexism are calculated as the average scores of the items in the respective subscales, with a higher score indicating a higher degree of either form of sexism. The questionnaire uses a 5-point Likert scale, where 1 represents “strongly disagree” and 5 represents “strongly agree.”

Reliability and Validity

Researchers Cai Xueqing and Chen Zhixia conducted reliability tests on the Chinese version of the ambivalent sexism scales. The internal consistency coefficient for the hostile sexism subscale was 0.746, while that for the benevolent sexism subscale was 0.660, indicating good reliability and high measurement reliability.
