By validating the concept of synthesis, Mill provided intellectual justification for the later psychological movements that focused on experience as a unified whole, rather than atomized sensations. This theory implied that the mind is not just a passive receiver, but an active laboratory where elements interact to create novel products. Furthermore, Mental Chemistry had a profound influence on moral philosophy, particularly Mill’s own Utilitarianism.
