PROBABILISTIC FUNCTIONALISM

As put forth in the proposal by U.S. psychologist Egon Brunswick, the theory of probabilistic functionalism proposes that environmental cues are only approximated indicators of the subjects or objects they refer to. Also, organisms actually select the cues that are useful for response and that the truth of perceptions should be considered only probabilistic and not certain.

PROBABILISTIC FUNCTIONALISM: “Probabilistic functionalism is a theory the proposes that environmental cues are only guesses regarding the objects they refer to.”
