PITRES’ RULE

a generalization postulating that whenever a multilingual individual recovers from aphasia inflicted by a cerebral injury or stroke, the language recovered first is generally the one commonly utilized by the individual before the onset of the aphasia. Other languages are recalled in a more gradual manner, and often not in entirety. Commonly referred to as Pitres’ law.

PITRES’ RULE: “In accordance with Pitres’ Rule, Michael should recollect English before the Spanish he learned only a few years ago.”
