NONADHERENCE

Is the resulting condition when a patient refuses to adhere (stick to or stay with) a prescribed therapeutic regime. The regime may be taking a course of drugs to alleviate symptoms for a greater standard of living or can be more holistic approaches such as attending a counsellor. Equally, nonadherence may involve taking medications in incorrect doses, at incorrect times, or in inappropriate combination with prescribed or over- the-counter medications, alcohol, or foodstuffs.

NONADHERENCE: “Defying the wishes of a physician with respect to a treatment plan is an example of nonadherence.”
