Jocasta complex, in psychoanalytic theory, is a mother’s sexual attraction or asexual but domineering love towards her son. This term was introduced in 1920 by Raymond de Saussure. In Greek mythology, Jocasta was a queen who unknowingly married her son, Oedipus. Some psychoanalysts suggest that this may be manifested as over-concern for the son and may be caused by unsatisfied adult relationships. Others opine that the Oedipal complex (hyperlink) may be triggered by the Jocasta complex.
