Self-awareness is the human capacity to recognize oneself as an individual who is separate from the environment and other beings. It likewise refers to the ability for introspection or the capacity to examine one’s life and thoughts. “High” self-awareness is a state of mind and being where a person is able to assess and evaluate their own motivations and reactions in relationship to the world and life events. This level of self-awareness is a goal that is often sought through meditation through which life events are considered without excess emotional involvement but with the aim of fully understanding the event and the reaction.
