CORPUS LUTEUM

a yellow-toned glandular growth in the ovary that exists following a graftian follicle explosion and subsequent release of an egg. Its growth is aroused by luteinizing hormone which is excreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It serves as a temporary endocrine gland, dispersing progesterone.

CORPUS LUTEUM: “The corpus luteum begins to decompose if the egg is not fertilized by sperm.”
