(1860-1944) a U.S. psychologist who became the first American ever to publish a psychology dissertation and earn a German doctorate. By age 28, he was also the first psychology professor ever to be appointed, this time, in the University of Pennsylvania. Cattell devised the first battery of tests for the psychological assessment of special ability. He is best-known for his notable contributions to the study of intelligence and perception through experimental methods.
