BRISSAUD’S INFANTILISM

n. a developmental anomaly associated with an underactivity of the thyroid gland. The condition begins after birth and continues on to cause significant delays in physical growth and mental development past the puberty stage. Also called infantile myxedema. Named after French physician Edouard Brissaud (1852-1909).

BRISSAUD’S INFANTILISM: “Myxedema is a frequent manifestation of Brissaud’s Infantilism, and it shows as a dry, waxy swelling of the skin especially along the nose and lips. “
