BRAIN

n. in humans, refers to the anterior part of the central nervous system which is enlarged in size and encased in the cranium. Connected to the spinal cord, it consists of both gray matter and white matter. It is further divided into three main regions, namely, the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. Also called encephalon.
