BORSTAL SYSTEM

m. a method formerly used to rehabilitate young offenders between the ages of 16 to 21. To reform these delinguent boys, the approach was to engage them in manual work, vocational training, group counseling, and recreation. First introduced in 1908 at Borstal Prison in Kent, England.

BORSTAL SYSTEM: “Abolished as the Borstal System was, it attempted to reform the youth through work and education, in preparation fo their re-entry into society.”
