p. n. a group of agents which prevent the binding of benzodiazepine to its receptor site. As prescription drugs, they are used before medical procedures to slow down the CNS. Among them are known brands of tranquilizers, hypnotics, and sedatives such as clonazepam (Klonopin) and diazepam (Valium).
