n. a condition in which there are involuntary eye movements (nystagmus) which develop after the destruction of the first labyrinth of the inner ear. The condition subsides and then recurs when the second labyrinth too is lost. Also called compensatory nystagmus. Introduced by Russian neurologist Mikhailovich Bekhterev (1857-1927).
