BEING-IN-THE-WORLD

n. in existential psychology, refers to a type of being which is characteristic of humans. This existence is supposed to be oriented towards more growth and meaning. The being is meant to become a state rather than just an activity, while the world in human life means more than just the environment. First introduced by Martin Heidegger (18819-1976). Compare being-beyond-the-world.

BEING-IN-THE-WORLD: “Because it relates to growth and meaning, being-in-the-world is a personal experience which is unique for everybody.”
