AVERSION THERAPY

refers to a form of behavior therapy in which the client is conditioned to cease an undesirable behavior by associating it with noxious or unpleasant experiences. For example, the application of feces to a cigarette may the experience of smoking much less pleasant – eventually leading the behavior to cease. Also known as aversive therapy- deterrent therapy.

AVERSION THERAPY: “A person undergoing aversion therapy for nail biting may apply a horrid tasting liquid to the nails to make the biting so unpleasant that the behavior ceases.”
