The ASC function in Excel is used to return the ASCII code for a given character. To use this function, first select a cell where you want the result to be displayed. Then, type “=ASC(” followed by the character or cell reference for which you want to find the ASCII code. Close the parentheses and press Enter. The function will return the ASCII code for the specified character. This can be useful for sorting data in alphabetical or numerical order.

Description
For Double-byte character set (DBCS) languages, the function changes full-width (double-byte) characters to half-width (single-byte) characters.

ASC(text)
The ASC function syntax has the following arguments:
Text Required. The text or a reference to a cell that contains the text you want to change. If text does not contain any full-width letters, text is not changed.
