The QUOTIENT function in Excel allows users to easily divide one number by another number. This function takes two arguments, the numerator and denominator, and returns the quotient, or result of the division. Tip: If you want to divide numeric values, you should use the “/” operator as there isn’t a DIVIDE function in Excel. For example, to divide 5 by 2, you would type =5/2 into a cell, which returns 2.5. The QUOTIENT function for these same numbers =QUOTIENT(5,2) returns 2, since QUOTIENT doesn’t return a remainder. Syntax
QUOTIENT(numerator, denominator)
The QUOTIENT function syntax has the following arguments:
Numerator Required. The dividend.
Denominator Required. The divisor.
Remark
If either argument is nonnumeric, QUOTIENT returns the #VALUE! error value.
