How can I filter dates by month in Google Sheets?

To filter dates by month in Google Sheets, you can use the “Filter by condition” tool. First, select the column of dates you want to filter. Then, click on the filter icon in the toolbar and select “Filter by condition.” In the drop-down menu, select “Date is” and choose the appropriate month from the list. This will filter the dates in that column to only show those from the selected month. You can also use the “Custom formula is” option to specify a specific month or date range. This allows you to easily organize and analyze data based on specific time frames.

Often you may want to filter dates based on month in Google Sheets.

Fortunately this is easy to do by creating a helper column and the following example shows how to do so.

Example: How to Filter Dates by Month in Google Sheets

First, let’s create the following dataset that contains information about sales made by some company on specific dates:

Now suppose that we would like to filter the dataset to only show the rows where the date is in January or March.

To do so, we must first create a helper column that contains the month number of each date.

Type the following formula into cell C2 to do so:

=MONTH(A2)

Then click and drag this formula down to each remaining cell in column C:

Next, highlight the cell range A1:C12, then right click and then click Create a filter:

Then click the Filter icon next to Month.

Then click Filter by values and then only check the values next to 1 and 3, which represent the months of January and March:

Once you click OK, the dataset will be filtered to only contain the rows where the date is in January or March:
