De Montreal Cognitive Assessment is een beknopt screeningsinstrument voor het meten van cognitieve achteruitgang. en bevat de volgende 8 cognitieve domeinen: executieve functies, visuospatiële vaardigheden, aandacht, concentratie en werktempo, taal, korte termijn geheugen en oriëntatie1,2. Oorspronkelijk is de MoCA ontwikkeld voor Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) De diagnose Mild Cognitive Impairment betreft een lichte cognitieve achteruitgang die erger is dan men op basis van leeftijd mag verwachten, maar die niet aan de diagnose dementie voldoet.3 De MoCA kan ook gebruikt worden bij neurologische ziektebeelden die gepaard gaan met cognitieve achteruitgang.
