Het doel van het instrument is: 1. het screenen van kinderen van wie waarschijnlijk is dat zij spraak-/taalmoeilijkheden hebben; 2. het identificeren van pragmatische stoornissen bij kinderen met communicatieproblemen; 3. assisteren in het identificeren van kinderen die voor een autisme spectrum stoornis (ASS) onderzocht moeten worden. De CCC-2 bestaat uit 70 beweringen waarvan beoordeeld wordt hoe vaak het omschreven gedrag geobserveerd wordt door ouders, verzorgers of andere volwassenen die regelmatig contact hebben met het kind (de informant).
