| Description | The Light Test (Schucman, 1960) was designed to evaluate shape discrimination as part of a study to develop an objective, quantified, and predictive measure of educability for children with severe intellectual disabilities. The test used a gray box with plastic-covered windows on each side, featuring knobs of various shapes arranged in increasing numbers. During demonstrations, subjects learned that selecting rectangular knobs would illuminate a series of flashlight bulbs behind the windows. Correct responses required identifying the rectangular knob through any unambiguous action. The test included eight items, with each side of the box presented twice. A transfer form utilized another gray box with black knobs corresponding in shape to the original white ones. Administered to a sample of severely intellectually disabled children, the test showed high stability, consistency, and demonstrated both predictive and construct validity. |
