Abstract
The Alcohol-Related Content Poster Prototype Scale (Razo et al., 2023) is an inventory/questionnaire designed to evaluate college students’ perceptions of their peers who share alcohol-related content on social media platforms. The scale’s development involved an initial pre-screen phase where participants provided adjectives describing such individuals through an open-response format. These responses were analyzed using the quanteda library (version 2.0.1) in R 3.5.3, tokenized, and stemmed to identify the most frequent adjectives. The 30 most frequently provided adjectives were subsequently retained for scale development. Data for the scale’s validation were collected from two distinct samples of university students in the United States. Responses with a completion time of less than two minutes were excluded to ensure data validity; the median completion time for the assessment was 8 minutes and 21 seconds. Factor analysis supported a three-factor model, and the reported results indicate the scale’s validity.

Purpose
The Alcohol-Related Content Poster Prototype Scale (Razo et al., 2023) was developed to assess college students’ conceptualization of their peers who post alcohol-related content to social media. This measure aims to explore students’ alcohol-related content (ARC) poster prototypes, contributing to an understanding of how these prototypes might influence drinking behaviors among college students.
Validity
The validity of the Alcohol-Related Content Poster Prototype Scale was supported by significant pathways observed between viewing and posting alcohol-related content (ARC) and subsequent drinking behaviors. Specifically, the “sociable prototype” emerged as a significant mediator in the association between ARC viewing and posting and the act of drinking.
Reliability
No reliability data is available.
Factor Analysis
Both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted during the development of the Alcohol-Related Content Poster Prototype Scale. Initial examination of eigenvalues for the ordinal EFA model suggested a five-factor solution. However, a scree plot visually favored a three-factor solution.
The three-factor model demonstrated a fit approaching acceptable levels, with model fit statistics as follows: RMSEA = 0.056 (90% CI: 0.055, 0.057), CFI = 0.894, and TLI = 0.868. It is generally accepted that a good model fit is indicated by CFI and TLI values greater than or equal to 0.9 and an RMSEA of 0.05 (Hu & Bentler, 1999).
During the analysis, certain items exhibited problematic loadings:
Items 5 (social), 17 (carefree), and 22 (bold) showed high cross-loadings between factors 1 and 2.
Items 11 (young), 16 (rich), and 19 (typical) did not demonstrate strong loadings associated with any particular factor.
Consequently, these problematic items were removed for the final CFA analysis. The three-factor ordinal CFA of the remaining 26 items yielded a marginal fit for the observed sample data: χ²(249) = 6577.671, p < 0.001, CFI = 0.814, TLI = 0.794, RMSEA = 0.079 (90% CI: 0.078, 0.081).
Instrument: Alcohol-Related Content Poster Prototype Scale
Test Type: Original Inventory/Questionnaire
Format: Participants are given a list of personality characteristics and are instructed to rate the extent to which they believe these adjectives describe college students who post alcohol-related content on social media. Ratings are made on a 6-point Likert scale, ranging from “not at all” (1) to “very much” (6). The scale consists of 26 items, which are categorized into three factors: Hedonistic, Sociable, and Despondent.
