Abstract
The Cognitive Skills Assessment of Minerva (CSM) Selective Attention Test, developed by Kiliçarslan et al. (2023), is designed to assess a cognitive skill crucial for focusing on specific information while filtering out distractions. The 40-item scale was created based on an extensive literature review and inspiration from existing instruments like the Attention Network Test (Fan et al., 2002). The CSM Selective Attention Test has been evaluated in a Turkish sample of children, with reported reliability and validity results for its items.

Purpose
The primary objective of this instrument is to establish a normative selective attention test specifically for Turkish children.
Validity
Criterion Validity: A strong positive correlation (r = .78, p < .001) was observed between the mean congruent reaction times of the CSM Selective Attention Test and the Eriksen Flanker Test (Eriksen & Eriksen, 1974). Additionally, a moderately positive correlation (r = .64, p < .001) was found between the CSM Selective Attention Test’s mean incongruent reaction times and the Eriksen Flanker Test’s mean incompatible reaction times. The overall mean reaction times across both tests showed a strong and positive correlation (r = .81, p < .001).
Reliability
Split-Half Reliability: For the mean compatible reaction time (in milliseconds), there was no significant difference between Group A and Group B, with t(30) = .94, p > .05.

Test Type: Original
Format: The test presents six arrows pointing up and six arrows pointing to the right, which remain constant. A central arrow, however, changes direction. A “congruent trial” occurs when the central arrow’s direction matches either the horizontal or vertical arrows. Conversely, an “incongruent trial” occurs when the central arrow’s direction is opposite to the horizontal or vertical arrows. Participants are instructed to identify the direction of the central arrow by pressing the corresponding key on a keyboard. The test comprises a total of 40 trials, split equally with 20 congruent and 20 incongruent trials. Three different reaction times are recorded: the mean reaction time for congruent trials, the mean reaction time for incongruent trials, and the overall mean reaction time for all trials. The average completion time for the test is 5 minutes.
