Reiss Premarital Sexual Permissiveness Scale

CategoryDetails
DescriptionThe Reiss Premarital Sexual Permissiveness Scale (Reiss, 1964) was created to examine premarital sexual permissiveness in a bi-racial sample of students and adults. It features Guttman scale questions to assess attitudes towards premarital sexual behavior. The questions inquire about the acceptability of kissing, petting, and coitus under conditions of engagement, love, strong affection, and no affection. The scale consists of 12 items, and separate forms are provided for men and women. Subscales can be derived from the original scales, and all scales meet the .90 reliability criterion.
