Autofilling in Google Sheets allows users to quickly and efficiently transfer data from one sheet to another. This feature eliminates the need to manually copy and paste data, saving time and reducing the risk of errors. To autofill values from one sheet to another in Google Sheets, users can simply select the desired cells, click and hold the bottom right corner of the selection, and drag it across the cells where they want the data to be filled. This will automatically populate the selected cells with the corresponding data from the original sheet. Additionally, users can use the “Fill Down” or “Fill Right” options to quickly autofill data in a column or row. This feature is particularly useful for transferring data between multiple sheets or for creating consistent data sets.
Google Sheets: Autofill Values from Another Sheet
The following step-by-step example shows how to autofill values from another sheet in Google Sheets.
Step 1: Enter Data in First Sheet
First, let’s enter the following data into Sheet1 in Google Sheets:
Step 2: Autofill Data in Second Sheet
Now suppose we have another sheet titled Sheet2 that contains the following data:
Suppose we would like to autofill the values from the Points column in Sheet1 into a Points column in Sheet2.
To do so, we can type the following formula in cell C2 of Sheet2:
=Sheet1!B2 This will automatically populate cell C2 in Sheet2 with the value from cell B2 in Sheet1:
To autofill the rest of the values in column C, we can hover over the bottom right-hand corner of cell C2 until a tiny “+” appears.
Then click and drag down to all of the remaining cells in column C:
Notice that all of the values from the Points column in Sheet1 have been autofilled into Sheet2.
