UTTERANCE

noun. a unit of spoken linguistics, that might be of any length but can generally be recognized by conversational turn-taking or via clear pauses within the flow of speech, mean length of which is thought to be an imperative index of language development in young kids.

UTTERANCE: “While her utterance was brief, she said more in that statement than most ever expected to hear from her.”
