noun. 1. participating in an activity, generally one which involves other people in a shared endeavor. 2. the interaction of at least two systems which mutually impact one another. 3. with regard to Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive growth, the propensity of kids to confuse their fantasies, hopes, or dreams with reality.
