ZAR (ZAAR)

noun. a culturally-rooted syndrome, typical in Middle Eastern and North African societies, which is credited to spirit possession. Happening most often in females, zar frequently consists of somatic, dissociative, and affective indicators, like yelling, giggling, apathy, and refusal engage in or carry out everyday tasks.
