Russian psychologist. Vygotsky attained his doctorate from the Psychological Institute in Moscow, where he remained a part of the research faculty for the duration of his professional life, though he additionally lectured and oversaw research in Leningrad and Kharkov. Vygotsky is most widely recognized for his sociocultural theory of mental development, placing due stress on the interaction of the child’s innate abilities with the symbolic mediators available within their society.
