TYROSINE HYDROXYLASE

an enzyme which catalyzes the initial, and rate-restricting, step during the biosynthesis of the catecholamine neurotransmitters known as epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. It converts dietary tyrosine, utilizing the component enzyme known as tetrahydrobiopterin and also molecular oxygen, to L-dopa.
