In DSM-IV-TR, array of mental, behavioral, and physiological signs or symptoms suggesting continual consumption of sedative, hypnotic, or anxiolytic drugs in spite of considerable difficulties associated with these particular compounds. Trend of continued ingestion producing tolerance , characteristic withdrawal symptoms on termination of usage (see: sedative , hypnotic , or anxiolytic withdrawal), as well as an ungovernable urge to maintain use.
