A primary care provider, also known as a PCP or primary physician offers the first amount of care once a patient decides to seek service from the health care system. Once initial examinations and care is provided, a PCP may refer the patient to more specific and specialized treatment. PCP’s include internists, family doctors and those practicing general medicine.
