An American psychologist, Carolyn Payton is widely recognized as director of the Peace Corps in the late 1970’s and as a primary advocate for the cognitive healthcare requirements of African Americans. Payton attained a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin and subsequently attained a doctorate in counseling and student administration from Columbia University
