PARACENTRAL SCOTOMA

a small area of blindness in the central visual region encompassing, but not consisting of, the fovea. The monocular type stems from disabling of the peripheral visual system- the homonymous type is due to damage to the central visual system behind the lateral geniculate nucleus. Patients with homonymous often have trouble reading.

PARACENTRAL SCOTOMA: “The paracentral scotoma is not a normal occurrence- human beings should not have blind spots outside of their cars, joked the doctor.”
