OVARY

noun. the female reproductive organ, that generates ova and carnal hormones. In human beings, the two ovaries are shaped like almonds, typically found in the lower abdomen on one side or the other of the upper end of the uterus, to which they’re linked by the fallopian tubes. The ovaries of the prepubertal human female contain about 350,000 not yet mature oocytes, of that number, less than 400 will grow into mature ova to be expelled at a frequency of about one each month between the onset of menses and menopause.
