MONOAMINE OXIDASE (MAO)

breaks down and actively disables monoamines, which can include a variety of different neurotransmitters too. This enzyme has two different enantiomers, one MAO-A and the other MAO-B which is the enzyme which is more commonly found in brain tissues. MAO-A however is found more in the gastrointestinal tract, accounting for only 20% of the monoamine oxidase enzyme found in the brain.

MONOAMINE OXIDASE (MAO): “MAOs are a group of neurotransmitters which are chemically and structurally different from monoamines.”
