COUNTERCULTURE

noun. A societal movement which preserves its own alternative morals and standards in contrast to dominating cultural standards. The terminology is traditionally correlated with the hippie movement and accompanying drug culture of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, which refuted societal averages such as work ethic and the classic family form.

COUNTERCULTURE: “Countercultures are often treated with prejudice from outsiders and those of more mainstream belief systems.”
