n. a practice in nesting wherein the females of certain bird species (e.g. cuckoos) lay their eggs in the nest of another, thus, leaving their chicks to be reared by foster parents or hosts. These parasitic birds may also eject the host’s own offspring, thus allowing their species to beg and compete more successfully.
