BIOCHEMICAL MARKER

n. a biochemical variable which has been detected in a disease, whether or not this substance directly or indirectly causes the disorder. Examples include the specific concentration of an enzyme, the level of a hormone, the presence of an antibody, etc. See biological marker- also clinical marker.

BIOCHEMICAL MARKER: “In itself, the presence or absence of a specific antibody, hormone, or enzyme could already serve as a biochemical marker.”
