ARBITRATION

a method commonly used for settling controversies. Both parties involved present their arguments and supporting information to an impartial agent, such as a judge or, an arbiter or board. By prior mutual agreement, the arbiter’s decision is final. This process is different from mediation, in which the outside agent (the mediator or conciliator) seeks to help the parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement by themselves.

ARBITRATION: “The divorcing couple took part in arbitration proceedings in order to establish who would keep the pet cat.”
