APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY

the application of the theories, principles, and techniques of psychology to clinical settings, for example, the treatment of psychopathology, educational psychology, or forensic psychology. It may be contrasted with psychological research, cognitive psychology, or academic psychology, in which the emphasis is on understanding for its own sake. Frequently however, concepts begin with research and are then applied to the clinical setting.

APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY: “A person studying applied psychology would likely be interested in putting theoretical concepts of psychology into practical use – for example, a clinical setting.”
