APNEA (APNOEA)

n. temporary suspension or arrest of respiration. If the arrest lasts for a long time, the heart may be slowed and EEG (electroencephalogram) changes may occur. Commonly, apnea can occur during sleep (see also sleep apnea) and may also occur as a result of many disorders, such as major epilepsy and concussion.
