Comments:

The 10-item survey provides individual institutions with faculty perceptions about the following nine aspects that impact on faculty self-esteem: administrative commitment, faculty input, information sharing, honesty, budget, classroom control, support services, professional development, and goal setting. The tenth item is open-ended.

Sample:

The original sample consisted of 1,286 full-time faculty from 25 community college campuses representing 20 institutions of higher education in 13 states as well as the 25 chief executive officers for each institution.

Data Analysis:

Based on site location, means are reported for each of the nine variables.

Institutional Ethical Practices and Faculty Professional Self-Esteem Survey

1. The administration of this college has stated, formally and/or informally, its commitment to promoting the profes- sional self-esteem of the faculty.
2. Faculty are influential in ensuring that issues which will enhance their professional self-esteem are addressed.
3. All pertinent information dealing with college issues is openly and freely exchanged.
4. Faculty are dealt with in an honest and consistent manner.

5. Faculty have power in determining the institutional budget.
6. Faculty have control over all appropriate classroom-related matters.
7. The institution demonstrates sensitivity to the faculty need to devote the proper amount of time and attention to instructional matters.
8. The institution supports opportunities for faculty professional growth and renewal.
9. Faculty are meaningfully involved in institutional planning.
10. List any other institutional variable that is significant to the quality of the teaching-learning environment at this institution. Explain.

Scoring:

A 10-point scale ranges from 0 = Does not describe to 10 = Describes.
