Scale Overview
The Yang’s Alienation Scale – YAS was developed by Anthony Yang (2015). It is designed to measure Alienation and Anomia. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 29 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 4 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 29 to 145. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Alienation: 29 – 58
- Moderate Alienation: 59 – 115
- High Alienation: 116 – 145

Administration
