Scale Overview
The Workplace Dissatisfaction, Commitment, and Support Scales (WDCS) was developed by Jing Zhou, Jennifer M. George (2001). It is designed to measure Job dissatisfaction, continuance commitment, coworker feedback, and organizational support for creativity. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Job Dissatisfaction, Continuance Commitment, Useful Feedback from Coworkers, Perceived Organizational Support for Creativity.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Job Dissatisfaction | 1,2,3 | 3 |
| Continuance Commitment | 4,5,6,7,8,9 | 6 |
| Useful Feedback from Coworkers | 10,11,12 | 3 |
| Perceived Organizational Support for Creativity | 13,14,15,16 | 4 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low: 1 – 2
- Moderate: 3 – 3
- High: 4 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Job Dissatisfaction alpha = 0.84, Continuance Commitment alpha = 0.79.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
