Scale Overview
The Work Interference With Family and Family Interference With Work Scales – WIF/FIW was developed by Gutek, B. A., Searle, S., Klepa, L., Carlson, D. S., & Perrewé, P. L. (1991, 1999). It is designed to measure Work-Family Conflict. The scale is intended for use with Employed adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Agree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Neither Agree nor Disagree, 4 = Disagree, 5 = Strongly Disagree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 6 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- High Interference: 6 – 12
- Moderate Interference: 13 – 22
- Low Interference: 23 – 30
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of WIF alpha: .71-.87; FIW alpha: .74-.83; Composite alpha: .66-.89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
