The Wisconsin Quality of Life Index for Adults – A-QLI was developed by Marion A. Becker, Bret R. Shaw, Lisa M. Reib (1996). It is designed to measure Quality of Life. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 62 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: Physical Health, Self-Care, Pain and Symptoms, Social Relations, Psychological Well-Being, Spirituality and Environment, Overall Quality of Life.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = No Days / Never / Definitely False / Very Dissatisfied, 2 = Few Days / Seldom / Mostly False / Somewhat Dissatisfied, 3 = Some Days / Sometimes / Not Sure / Neither, 4 = Most Days / Often / Mostly True / Somewhat Satisfied, 5 = All Days / Always / Definitely True / Very Satisfied.
The scale includes 37 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Lower Quality of Life: 0 – 50
- Higher Quality of Life: 51 – 100
